On this site you will learn that Danish Swedish Farm Dogs are not in the Terrier family, but are actually in the Pinscher family of dogs, and that they almost went extinct until they were rescued by the Danish and the Swedish Kennel Clubs in the 1980s. You will also learn that historical accounts suggest that Mastiffs sent by the English to Danish courts were bred with local canines, probably of the early Great Dane breed, producing the Danish Broholmer. And that the Germans, and not the Danish, were probably the original breeders of the Great Dane. It is believed that an early ancestor of the Great Dane was crossed with Irish Greyhounds resulting in the beautiful, large, thin, agile dog known as the Great Dane today.
